Tips supplied by Elmer F. Grimm, Master Gardener since l974 and Member of the Mauldin Garden Club

• When planting annuals, use some composted manure in the potting mix. You will be surprised at the results.
• Mulch should also be applied around all shrubs to keep their roots moist and cooler.
• Apply a layer of mulch in the spring and again in late fall.
• Finally, my motto is "mulch, mulch, mulch".
